Vision and Values
We aim to provide our pupils with an engaging, exciting and empowering curriculum that equips them for the next stage of their education as well as life in modern Britain.
Our curriculum is designed to recognise pupil’s prior learning, develop their knowledge, understanding and skills through quality first teaching. We are very proud of our learning environment both within and outside the school building which is purposeful, vibrant and of a high standard.
We fully utilise the enormous and historic capital that the borough of Newham and London as a whole has to offer. There are lots of opportunities to visit places of interest as part of the learning experience. These include museums, art galleries and famous landmarks. Pupils in Year 6 are given the opportunity to take part in educational visit overseas, which has included Barcelona in Spain to look at the work of the artist Gaudi, as well as speak Spanish, which is taught at the school. We teach the National Curriculum, as well as Read Write Inc (RWI) phonics programme, Writing for Pleasure, Take One Book and Maths No Problem schemes of work.
The work carried out in the classrooms is further enhanced through our offer of a wide range of extracurricular activities, so that pupils interests and talents in a range of subjects including sport, art, music and the arts can be further developed, leading to deep and secure understanding.
We are an inclusive school and take pride in ensuring pupils with SEND have access to quality personalised learning opportunities including horse-riding, swimming, and a range of intervention groups. The school has its own soft play and sensory room so that provision is accessible and appropriate.
We have established close working partnerships with parents and families to ensure there is mutual understanding and support to meet the needs of our pupils and the community we serve.
We respect and celebrate the religions and cultural diversity within our school. Staff seek out relevant and meaningful opportunities to develop pupils’ social, moral, cultural and spiritual understanding when teaching all subjects. We hold special assemblies, provide themed school lunches and ensure that pupils visit a range of places of worship during their time at the school.
There is a strong commitment to quality professional development resulting in regular training delivered by staff in-house and through external providers. This ensures we maintain high standards of teaching and learning so that all pupils make progress from their different starting points.
